Bonjour! Comment ça va?

In Grade 3/4 and 5/6 we have been listening and learning many expressions from Julie Power's song, "Comment ça va?" This song teaches and reinforces phrases and vocabulary that we use during attendance and throughout class, which includes:

  • describing ourselves using a variety of adjectives
  • using masculine and feminine adjectives
  • adding supporting details that extend our conversation
  • using "why" and "because" in French
  • learning expressions such as "I don't know!"
We hope you enjoy this fun song!

We have also been learning to use adjectives in a variety of ways in Gr. 7/8. We hear and see adjectives in use in the cartoon "Muzzy" which we have been enjoying on Fridays.

Stay warm and have a good weekend!

French Friday!

Each Friday, two students have the opportunity to participate in "French Friday" which involves either reciting the Lord's Prayer or giving the weather announcement in French on our school intercom system to the whole student body.  Perhaps some careers in radio have been inspired by this!

The Lord's Prayer is recited first. A link for the Lord's Prayer is found on the right-hand side of this page for those who would like to practice.

Next, stay tuned for the weather!

Speaking of weather, this is what Mme Christensen experienced over the weekend in another part of our beautiful province! Thankfully, Winnipeg was spared!

Bonne semaine,
Mme Christensen

All about us!

Our first week and a half back at classes saw us talking and writing about ourselves and what is important to us, as reflected in our titlepages. Here is a sampling! I am amazed at the variety of sentences and expressions that students remembered from last year. Bravo, tout le monde!

Thank you for contributing name tags to our bulletin board!

Bonne fin de semaine!

Bonnes vacances! French day camp for ages 7-12!

Bonnes vacances! Yesterday was a flurry of activity with school parties, clean-up and fond farewells until September.

Summer is a good time to extend and enrich our learning in fun settings such as day camp. Once again, the Université de Saint Boniface is offering Tu parles, a day camp for ages 7-12.  Please check out this video:

It has been a great joy and privilege to teach your children this year. I wish all my students and their families a restful, safe and fun summer vacation!

Les jeux de juin: photos

There are some tremendous board games in the making in our Grade 3/4 class! All students are using material learned through the year in their games. We also learned extra vocabulary for game-related instructions such as: roll the die/advance or go back a space/lose a turn/start/finish, etc. The students had great enthusiasm in choosing specific themes for their games!

Bravo, Gr. 3/4 students! We will continue with this work this week.  Grade 5/6 students are preparing cards for those having birthdays through June and the summer months. Grade 7/8 students will do the same once they return from camp after Wednesday!

Bonne semaine!

Les aventures en plein air

Our Grade 7/8 students are putting their finishing touches on their outdoor adventure projects which are due on Monday. For this project, students have designed a summer outdoor adventure for a friend at a Canadian national park. Students include information regarding lodging, food, activities, a map as well as topographical features. Here's a sneak preview:

Our Grade 5/6 students will be away at camp next week, Monday to Friday. Upon their return, we will work on a Father's Day activity. Grade 3/4 are happily working on their board games! We hope to be nearly finished by the end of next week. What creativity they have and what interesting themes they have chosen for their French board games! I cannot wait to share pictures next week.

Bonne fin de semaine,
Mme Christensen
